Suzanne Zeedyk, PhD Joins International Advisory Board

Kindred Welcomes Suzanne Zeedyk, PhD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 3, 2013 — International researcher and filmmaker, Suzanne Zeedyk, PhD, joined Kindred’s advisory board this month. Dr. Zeedyk’s pioneering work for the past 25 years has focused on studying babies’ innate ability to communicate and connect with their caretakers and the world.

“Babies arrive already connected to other people. That’s what a range of sciences is now telling us: that they have brains already tuned in to other people’s body rhythms and vocal tones and movements. It makes them much more communicative and sophisticated than we often realise. In fact, it turns out that their very brain pathways are shaped by the kinds of responses that they receive from other people,” says Dr Zeedyk.

“So, to build the kind of society that we all want, we need to pay more attention to the way that we relate to our youngest children. I guess you could say that science is helping us to understand why it is that the way we love our children matters so much.”

Dr. Zeedyk launched a series of new films earlier this year, on Global Belly Laugh Day, January 24,as a way of stressing the importance of laughter to our relationships and our health. Watch the series of films, Shedding Light on Connection in the Early Years, here.

Zeedyk earned her doctorate in Developmental Psychology at Yale University and in1993 took up an academic post in the United Kingdom as a Developmental Psychologist based at the University of Dundee, Scotland. She currently holds the post of Honorary Fellow there.

Kindred is proud to welcome Dr. Zeedyk and to feature her work, films and interviews on our website. We also welcome Dr. Zeedyk as a guiding adviser to our nonprofit of empowering families to make conscious living choices in a complex and changing world.
