Pregnant Sex – Hot or Not?

Let’s face it. Pregnancy changes your sex life. Period.

Your breasts are growing, your moods are swinging, your hormones are causing physical changes you never expected.  These changes can lead to a hot and spicy afternoon rendezvous OR they can cause you to experience cravings, crying and constipation. You may also be having trouble adjusting to the curvier, more voluptuous you. Our society inundates us with so many images of size 0 runway models that seeing your own body take a new, womanly shape may feel uncomfortable. You may not feel sexy and may even be wondering if your new curves are appealing to your partner. Have you ever even imagined that pregnancy and sexy could be in the same sentence? Well we are here to tell you that yes, indeed, it can!

Sexy comes in many shapes and sizes. It’s about how you feel about yourself and your sexuality that matters the most. Have you really looked at your pregnant self naked in the mirror? Have you taken the time to admire your new lovely, lady lumps? Go ahead and give yourself permission to love your new body.  In fact, you can celebrate your pregnant body with belly casting, pregnancy photography, henna belly art, belly painting, or wearing clothing and/or lingerie that makes you feel sexy and alive. The more that you celebrate your sexuality, the easier it will be to discuss your needs and desires with your partner.

On the other hand, don’t worry if your libido has diminished. This is also normal during pregnancy.  There are many ways to experience love and intimacy with your partner and staying physically and emotionally connected during your pregnancy is critical to the health of your partnership and ultimately your family. Keep in mind a little creativity in the bedroom (or any other room) can lead to new ways to enjoy sex.

Sometimes couples find that it takes a willingness to try many different positions and intimacy options before they find what works best in pregnancy. The hormone that is released during lovemaking is oxytocin, the love and bonding hormone. You can be comforted to know that your baby is not stressed by intercourse, in fact, she receives benefits from the oxytocin that is flowing. Go ahead. Get your groove on!

How has pregnancy changed the way you feel about your body and your sexuality?
