Hello Kindred Community!

I am a Texas psychologist and an activist in challenging wrong-headed ways that my so-called mental health profession deals with people (e.g., name-calling, drugging, electroshocking), and in supporting more lovign and sensible actions such as those advocated by you Kindred folks.

I am 57-years-old, and have 3 children. My son, Eric, is 23 and a graduate student in art and photography at Pratt Institute in New York City. Some f his activity may be seen on his blog at www.ericdouglasbreeding.blogspot.com. My daughter, Vanessa, is a 19-year-old, zestful powerhouse attending Pomona College in Southern California. She is studying languages and gender dynamics.  My 17-year-old stepson, Gardiner, is a creative wonder who attends the Austin Waldorf School. My wife, Karen, is a talented and popular counselor.

I have been a psychologist for about 25 years, and done a lot of things–counseling, teaching, writing, speaking, workshops and political activism on issues related to psychiatric oppression. You can find out more about me and my work at

For the Kindred Community, I am available to respond to a question or two each month on issues related to psychology and psychiatry, and of course young peopel and parenting. I will do my best to give thoughtful and relatively deep responses.

I admire and appreciate Kelly and all of you for your ongoing work in support of us all!

Peace,

John
